August 13, 2002 -- Anti-smoking advocates who convinced Mayor Bloomberg to propose a tough new law banning butts in bars, company cars and all restaurants have already zeroed in on their next targets: parks and beaches.

"Our parks don't allow alcoholic beverages. Our parks don't allow dogs in a lot of them. They don't allow loud music. But they still allow smoking," said Joe Cherner, the city's leading anti-smoking spokesman.

A classic example of how fanatics are never satisfied and the duplicitous nature of people who are essentially control-freaks masquerading as "reasonable."

"Our parks don't allow alcoholic beverages. Our parks don't allow dogs in a lot of them. They don't allow loud music. But they still allow smoking," said Joe Cherner, the city's leading anti-smoking spokesman.

Why not just go ahead and ban everything that is still allowed?

"Eventually, after this legislation, we would like to see smoke-free beaches and smoke-free parks addressed."

Who is this "we"? Here's a hint:

"Cherner was one of two dozen people who joined the mayor in City Hall Park yesterday to promote a bill extending the city's smoking ban to bars, billiard and bingo parlors, all restaurants, outdoor cafes, city vehicles and company cars if a single occupant objects." Bloomberg even suggested that smoking be outlawed in tobacco shops.

Last week, he called smokers "crazy." Yesterday, he added "stupid."

"This battle is about us and Philip Morris, and what they're trying to do to New Yorkers," said Oddo.

Ah, paranoia.

That guy is sick in the head. Like Ted Nugent says, there's nothing more dangerous than a liberal with a cause.

This wacko, Joe Cherner, is policy chair for the group Coalition for a Smoke-Free City. Two years ago he sponsored a full-page ad in the New York Times asking the City Council to expand smoking bans to bars. He's also been crusading for years to ban smoking in restaurants and nightclubs. He's been at this a long time. Unfortunately, he may finally get his wish. In any event:

Beach butt patrol?

I am glad I read the article. I thought Bloomberg had banned thongs at NY beaches. I was about to go out and apply for a job on the Beach Butt Patrol.

I'm not one for "dirt bashing," however, you really want to know how "sick in the head" Joe Cherner is? He is a gay man, even has his own "Family Web Site," on the net:

Joe Cherner, Boyfriend with two adopted girls

Now, this is the life HE chooses, but when this type of person comes out making billions to trash and bash adults to choose to smoke a legal product, I think we have a PROBLEM here!

If non smokers and anti smokers think it's quite alright to have a gay man as their leader to pull rights from everyone else, then we REALLY have a problem!

No WONDER gays are getting their rights! Joe Cherner is probably heading up THAT fight as well, and guess what! He is winning. It's the rest of us that are losing our rights.

Judge for yourself:

Another thought I am throwing out here:

IS BLOOMBERG IN BED WITH CHERNER? What do we really know about that man, eh?

Oh sure. The gay man laying down laws that WE have to endure, while he lives the high life with his boyfriend.

I have a great idea. The tobacco companies (individually, not as part of a conspiracy) should immediately say that they will no longer sell any of their products in NYC. They will be doing this in the spirit that Bloomberg is trying to set in NYC (for the children, don't you know). After two months of no taxes coming into the NYC coffers, see what Bloomberg is saying. Smokers in NYC can go to NJ, upstate NY, or any other nearby state to get their cigarettes (not illegal, as long as they only buy for personal use).

I'm sorry, but I am so sick and tired of pompous asses dictating to the rest of us how we are to live OUR lives.

Those that live in "Glass Houses" shouldn't throw stones!

I thought republicans wanted less government intrusion. I don't smoke, but I think business owners should decide, if they want to allow smoking in THEIR STORES.

That's what we want!!! For the business owner to decide. NOT Big GOVERNMENT. It's getting way out of hand. As you know, there is a lawsuit right now going on against Big Fat. Just where does intrusion of our rights stop?

Philip Morris, the cigarette giant headquartered here, was singled out for attack by James Oddo, the City Council Republican leader.

"This battle is about us and Philip Morris, and what they're trying to do to New Yorkers," said Oddo.

PM employs a lot of people at its HQ in NYC - it would serve Bloominidiot and Oddball if they just ceased operations and moved to a friendlier city.

It has long been my conviction that Cherner is one of those people who believes in some people are MORE equal than others.
